Rinata Sultanova — A Golden Year on Two Wheels
For Rinata Sultanova, 2026 has been a season of outstanding achievement. The Kazakhstani cyclist has combined success on the road and track with national championship victories and, most notably, a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Her year has demonstrated the value of consistency. From the opening months of the season to the biggest continental sporting stage, Sultanova has continued to establish herself as a specialist in the individual time trial while retaining the versatility that has characterised her career. Born on 17 March 1998, Sultanova has competed internationally in both road and track cycling. Her earlier career included three gold medals at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, where she won the individual pursuit, scratch and omnium events. She has also represented Kazakhstan at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships and collected medals at Asian championships. In 2026, however, the individual time trial has once again provided the setting for some of her most important achievements.
A Strong Beginning in Saudi Arabia

Sultanova opened her 2026 campaign with a major continental victory at the Asian Road Cycling Championships in Al-Qassim, Saudi Arabia. On 5 February, she won the elite women’s individual time trial over 20 kilometres. Hong Kong’s Wing Yee Leung finished second, while China’s Zhang Hao took third. The result placed Sultanova at the top of one of Asia’s major road-cycling competitions at the beginning of the season. Kazakhstan also secured silver in the mixed-team time trial at the championships, with Sultanova part of the national team alongside her teammates. The victory was particularly meaningful within Sultanova’s growing record in the discipline. Her team profile notes that she had previously won the Asian individual time-trial title in 2022, making her 2026 victory another significant continental achievement.
Keeping Her Track Credentials Strong
Although road cycling has become a prominent part of Sultanova’s career, her track background remains an important element of her sporting identity. At the 2026 Asian Track Cycling Championships in Tagaytay, Philippines, she won bronze in the women’s individual pursuit. The official results show Sultanova recording 4:50.540 in qualifying before going on to secure a place on the podium. The result added another continental medal to a career that has included substantial experience on the track. It also underlined her ability to compete across different cycling formats, from the controlled demands of the velodrome to the endurance and pacing required on the road.
Double National Champion

Sultanova’s strong season continued at the 2026 Kazakhstan Road Cycling Championships in Shchuchinsk. She won the women’s elite individual time trial over 25 kilometres and then added the national road-race title over 140 kilometres. The official championship results list Sultanova first in both events. Winning both titles highlighted two complementary aspects of her ability. The individual time trial requires sustained pace and careful control of effort, while the road race brings tactical decisions and the demands of racing within a larger group. Her 2026 results also include a second-place overall finish at the Grand Prix Fergana Ladies in Uzbekistan, according to her season results.
The Golden Moment in Japan
The biggest moment of Sultanova’s 2026 season arrived on 20 September at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. Competing in the women’s individual road cycling time trial, she completed the course in 36:23.72. China’s Zhang Hao finished second in 36:28.40, while South Korea’s Shin Ji-eun took bronze in 36:56.14. The victory gave Sultanova the gold medal and Kazakhstan’s first gold of the 2026 Asian Games. It was an important achievement for both the cyclist and her national team at the opening stage of the Games. The triumph also represented a progression from her previous Asian Games appearance. At the Hangzhou Asian Games, Sultanova had won bronze in the same individual time-trial discipline. In Aichi-Nagoya, she moved to the top step of the podium. The Olympic Council of Asia confirmed that the 2026 victory came at her second Asian Games appearance.

Another Top-10 Finish
Sultanova’s Asian Games campaign did not end with the time trial. On 22 September, she competed in the women’s road race alongside Kazakhstan teammates Yelizaveta Sklyarova and Violetta Kazakova. Sultanova finished eighth in 2:52:41, giving her another top-10 result at the continental Games. Her performance added to an already successful Games campaign and demonstrated her ability to remain competitive beyond her specialist time-trial event.
A Season Built on Consistency
Sultanova entered the 2026 season as a rider with an established record in both road and track cycling. The UCI lists her with the UAE Development Team for 2026, while the team’s announcement described her as a specialist in the individual time trial with previous Asian championship and Asian Games success. Her 2026 results have added substantially to that record: an Asian road time-trial title, a bronze medal at the Asian Track Championships, two Kazakhstan national road titles, a runner-up finish at the Grand Prix Fergana Ladies and, most prominently, Asian Games gold. What makes the season particularly notable is the consistency across different levels of competition. Sultanova has produced strong performances at continental, national and Asian Games level, with the individual time trial emerging as a clear thread throughout the year.

A Golden Chapter
At 28, Rinata Sultanova’s 2026 season represents an important chapter in her sporting journey. Her achievements demonstrate how experience, technical skill and sustained preparation can come together across a demanding cycling calendar. From the roads of Saudi Arabia to the velodrome in the Philippines, the national championships in Kazakhstan and finally the Asian Games in Japan, Sultanova has maintained a steady presence at the front of the competition. Her Asian Games gold is the standout achievement of the year, but it sits within a broader collection of results that reflects the depth of her career. For Kazakhstan, Sultanova’s victory in Aichi-Nagoya provided a memorable opening to the country’s gold-medal campaign. For the cyclist herself, 2026 has become a season defined by precision, perseverance and success one that adds a bright new chapter to her continuing story on two wheels.
